The Ice of Boston is Muddy…

Posted on August 7, 2010, 5:48 pm, by doug.

Hey everyone! Its been a little while since I last updated the site but a whole lot has been going on. I’m going to start off with a little bit of bad news though. The hard drive that my entire record was on died and apparently there was no back-up. The whole thing is gone and we have to start all over from the beginning. I’m looking at it as a blessing in disguise though. I think everyone is much more comfortable with the songs now and we have some great ideas for changes. Unfortunately this pushes the release date back yet again. I’ll keep you posted for new developments!

On a much lighter note, I’m excited to announce that I’m featured in this month’s issue of Clifton Magazine. It came out yesterday and if free to everyone in the Clifton area! I’ll see what I can do about possibly getting the spread online for all of you outside the Clifton area.

Not much else to report. Just hanging in Boston for the evening with Henry Gale. You should pick up their new record “Earthbound” on iTunes or Amazon.com. Heading back to Jersey tomorrow, and into Hoboken to get a new tattoo! Maybe I’ll post a few pictures!

Be easy.

It’s hot and messy in this house…

Posted on May 25, 2010, 12:47 pm, by doug.

So its been a little while since I updated, and that’s my fault.  The record has hit some minor set backs but we’re still pushing forward and set for a lat summer release.  I still don’t have a name for the record but I’m sure something will strike me as we near completion.  I’ve been working on several new tunes lately mostly on the subjects of love and post-communist Russia.  I’m excited how things are moving along in the writing department though.

In other news, I’m stoked to announce a show on June 1st at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn.  I’ll be playing with the wonderful Joseph Albert and The Dang-it Bobby’s.  The show is free and you can find the details on the “Shows” page.  I’m working on getting more shows lined-up for the summer in the great states of New Jersey and New York, and have a few things in the works for Baltimore, DC, Chicago and Philadelphia so stay tuned as dates unfold!

Don’t ever forget, somewhere someone is hiding in a treehouse.

Orange Jubilee…

Posted on March 21, 2010, 10:53 pm, by doug.

I’m going to go ahead and mark this weekend down in the win column.  I took another trip down to Maryland to do some arranging with Peter Hassett for the new record.  The weather was gorgeous so Peter and I sat down with our guitars in his backyard and just picked each song apart.  Peter took down some great notes and all in all it was really beneficial.  Emmy, Peter’s bulldog, was there to keep all of the hippos and panda bears away from us, so a big thanks to Emmy, one of the greatest dogs around.

As of right now we have six songs confirmed and the drum tracking begins next weekend.  We may be throwing in a wild card to bring the tally to seven tracks in all, but we’ll see what happens.  I am certainly excited about getting into Blue Noise and actually laying some stuff down and of course it’s always nice to spend a little time in Maryland with family and friends.

Be on the lookout for some videos from the studio over the next couple of weeks.  I’m stoked to be documenting the sessions.  It will be interesting to see how things evolve.  In the mean time though, check out this video of Ben Folds reminding us why he’s the man here.

Be easy!

Blue Raspberry MD 20/20…

Posted on March 6, 2010, 11:06 am, by doug.

So last night we began rehearsals for the record over at Stevie K’s house in Frederick, MD.  The evening began in high spirits as we set up all of the gear throughout the basement.  The walls are lined with wood paneling…AWESOME.  No seriously, it really brings the room together.

We dove in head first and began with “Skyward” a song Max and Peter were already somewhat familiar with.  Right off the bat I felt great about this entire project.  I’m working with friends and musicians who really get the feeling behind the music and that’s HUGE.

As the evening progressed we slid into “Limb” which is really shaping up.  Peter and Christian have a really great vibe going on in the rhythm section, they have been playing together for the better part of 15 years now.  From there we decided to tackle “Shine On” which I think is going to carry very well, Max has a really awesome picking part in the verse that really fills out the sound.  We also did a little rearranging and I’m really pleased.

We decided to close the evening on “Lily-Ann” which took on a new life of it’s own.  I’ve been playing that song for a while now and had grown a bit tired of it.  Injecting a full band sound and making it rock a little more has brought an entirely new life to the song and I’m excited.

With that Max had to leave, he was feeling a bit under the weather, so we all decided to jam out some covers of Miley Cyrus, Wilco, Drive By Truckers and Nirvana.  All in all I’d say it was a successful night.  I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s rehearsal.  Check back here that evening for more!

Awesome Awesomeness…

Posted on March 1, 2010, 5:30 pm, by doug.

So the show at Pete’s Candy Store on Saturday was an absolute blast. I got to share the stage with the wonderful Audrey Ryan, she played a beautiful set, and the very talented Yoni Gordon, whom rocked out something fierce.  A big thank you to the two of them as well as Goodnight Records and of course Pete’s.  Stay tuned for more dates in the very near future.

In other news, my MySpace page has been completely revamped.  I feel like it could have been on some kind of extreme home makeover show.  I think it looks amazing and I owe a big thank you to Jeff from the Digital Splash Creative Group.  The MySpace now has banners, wallpapers and a bunch of other nifty stuff.  Go check it out at www.myspace.com/dougorey.

I am also very excited to announce that I will headed back to Maryland this weekend  to start rehearsals for the new record.  I’ll be recording at Blue Noise Studios late this month, and shooting for an official release sometime in June.  Still don’t have name for the record but I can’t even begin to tell you all how stoked I am about it.  Keep an eye out for the first single sometime in late April.  We’re even thinking about pressing some vinyl which would be a dream come true.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  Swing back soon and maybe I’ll post a picture of a gazelle.

Hey look a dog! Nope it’s Chewbacca…

Posted on February 16, 2010, 1:54 pm, by doug.

So last night I got the chance to go to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden.  I must say the movie Best In Show is spot on.  I felt bad for the beer guy though.  He must have been the loneliest man in the building.  It was certainly not his crowd.  The most interesting part of the night was discovering that the Brussels Griffon looks like Chewbacca on four legs.

Big news on the recording front.  I’ve finally scheduled some time in mid-March to hit the studio and track the yet to be named EP.  I’m shooting for 5-7 tracks and will be working with the talented Max Lollar of MARLAD fame and Peter Hassett of Verbatim.  Really looking forward to this, more info on that was the project unfolds.

In the meantime a Facebook fan page has been launched, so if you haven’t already please make your way over to facebook.com/dougoreymusic and be a fan!  You can checkout a few of the photos taken by the wonderful Megan Kreh back in October.

So this is the new year…

Posted on January 2, 2010, 5:26 pm, by doug.

2010 has arrived and I have some big plans…

First and foremost, in the coming months I’ll be heading back to Boston to record an EP or possibly my first full-length album. We’ll see how the timing works out. I’ll be working with some of my closest friends and favorite musicians. Needless to say I’m pretty stoked.

My resolution for 2010 is to play out more. Much more. Check back soon as I fill up my calendar with dates in the New York, New Jersey and Boston areas. I’m looking forward to getting back into gigging regularly.

Last but certainly not least, I believe 2010 will be the year a public figure is adopted by an alien race and made king. My guess is Oprah. She’s really the only logical choice aside from Mel Gibson.

Happy New Year.

Well now your back is gonna hurt…

Posted on December 7, 2009, 6:09 pm, by doug.

So I’ve settled in Clifton, NJ for the time being while I seek further employment and really get the ball rolling.  I am excited to announce however that I have taken an internship with Goodnight Records.  David and the rest of the Goodnight team seem really awesome and I’m quite stoked to be on board with them.

I’m also excited to announce that I have set in motion the early beginnings of my debut EP.  Most likely I’ll be recording in Boston and hopefully have it ready to launch in early to mid March.  I don’t have a name for the EP just yet and the track list is constantly being juggled around.  So, when I know more I’ll be sure to let you all know more.

I’ll hopefully have a string of New York City and New Jersey gigs lined up soon and I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Work, work, work…

Posted on November 15, 2009, 9:49 am, by doug.

So I’ve been working like a madman at GameStop for the last couple months and I am stoked to say that Friday is my last day. Getting out of retail just before the holidays is probably one of the greatest ideas I have had in recent memory.

My last post eluded to some big news being on it’s way. Well the news has arrived and here it is…I’m picking up and moving to New York City. The last month or so has been spent looking for some day jobs so I can really focus on writing and performing. I have a few new song that I feel pretty good about, one entitled “Darling St.” and the other is yet to be named. I’m anxious to be in the city already and this is certainly the right move.

I’ll see you soon NYC.

Somewhere, someone is hiding in a treehouse…

Posted on September 28, 2009, 10:30 am, by doug.

Lately I’ve managed to get the creative juices flowing and hopefully I will have some demos tracked by the end of next week. It’s actually been a while since I wrote something I was pleased wih but I feel I’m movig in the right direction here. By that of course I mean I have two new songs one about cheese and the other about playing cricket in December.

I’m going to take in the DC United game this weekend which should be a blast. A much needed day off from the grind of pulling double shifts between two jobs. Hopefully I won’t have to do that for much longer.

On a more mysterious note I may have some potentially HUGE news in the next few weeks, so I will le you all know when I know more.

Be easy.
